Immunization Schedule 2021

Immunization Schedule 2021

How immunizations from your doctor in Metairie, and Covington, LA, can help you and your family stay healthy

If you are considering immunizations for yourself or for your child, it’s a smart idea. In fact, it’s the easiest and best way to prevent the spread of infectious, serious, and even deadly diseases.

Dr. Alan Sheen is an allergist who provides a wide range of allergy and asthma services, including immunizations. He has two convenient office locations in Metairie, and Covington, LA, to help you and your family stay healthy.

Before vaccines were invented, diseases and medical conditions like the flu, measles, or polio used to kill millions of people. Now, thanks to scientific research and vaccine development, many infectious diseases have been virtually wiped out.

Your doctor can help you and your family keep current on immunizations. Each year, the Centers for Disease Control or CDC recommends vaccinations for adults and children up to age 18.

For children, the CDC recommends these vaccinations:

  • Hepatitis B
  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis
  • Haemophilus influenza type B
  • Polio
  • Pneumococcal conjugate
  • Rotavirus
  • Measles, mumps, rubella
  • Chickenpox
  • Hepatitis A
  • Human papillomavirus
  • Meningococcal conjugate
  • Influenza

The first hepatitis B vaccine should be given when your child is born. Additional vaccines are given every 1 or 2 months until your child is 6 months old. Other vaccines, including the flu, are given at yearly intervals.

For adults and seniors, the CDC recommends these additional vaccinations:

  • Influenza, on a yearly basis
  • Shingles, 2 doses total
  • Pneumonia, one dose

Currently, the CDC recommends adults and seniors be vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, and also children, ages 5 and above.
